Stains

If you have a problem with a stain, we recommend always cleaning it quickly and don’t wait too long, because the problem can get worse. We explain what you can do in each case:

Crayons: Remove any excess of crayons on the wall, with a knife that will not damage the wallpaper, then put on the affected area a paper towel and press with an iron on the lowest heat. Wait 30 seconds and the mark should start disappearing. Be careful to not put too much heat or for too long. If the wallpaper is washable you have different options, rub with dishwasher soap and sponge, sprinkle baking soda with water or use a special product for it on the crayon mark.
Remember to always make a small test, before beginning.

Wine or coffee: On this type of stain, clean faster before it dries, if the wallpaper is washable apply dishwasher soap with sponge, with luck, you will not need to do anything else. If the stain is not gone, use sodium percarbonate, wait five minutes and clean with a wet cloth and dry.

Grease: You can use corn-starch paste or talcum, let the product sit on the grease spot for 10 minutes and remove with a dry sponge, brush or vacuum. Also, you can use an iron on low heat. First, put a paper towel on the grease spot and run the iron for a short time, the grease will be on the paper towels, leaving your walls clean.

Tips for Removing Marker Stains from Wallcoverings

Moms are always proud of their children’s artwork – until their little one uses the new wallpaper for a canvas and the artwork is drawn with a permanent marker. What can you tell your panicked client when she calls for advice on how to remove permanent markers from the beautiful wallcovering that you installed for her?

Here are a few options to consider:

  • First, carefully wipe the wall with a rag and soapy water. If the marker is fresh, this may work to remove Junior’s latest abstract drawing.
  • Make a paste of 3 parts baking soda and 1 part water. Spread the paste on the permanent marker stain and rub gently to remove the stain. Rinse the wallpaper with a clean rag and plain water to remove the baking soda residue.
  • Try a Magic Eraser to remove the marker stain. Dampen the Magic Eraser with water and ring it out. Rub gently on the stain until it is gone.
  • Apply a thin coating of toothpaste to the wall stain and rub gently with your finger. Once the stain is removed, wipe down the wallpaper with a clean, damp rag.
  • One last option is to try using rubbing alcohol to remove marker stains from wallcoverings. This should only be used as a last resort since it may fade or discolour the wallcovering. Dampen a clean rag with a moderate amount of rubbing alcohol. Wipe down the stain until it is removed. Then wipe down the wall with a clean rag and water.
